For the past couple of weeks I had been kind of discouraged about my progress-wanting to be leaner. Both pictures I’m working out 5-6 days a week, eating paleo. But the difference?! 1 year of health coaching and supplements with Brendan and the Metabolic Solutions team plus two holistic savage challenges under my belt. I was surprised and so excited to see that there really is a huge difference! Not to mention how much better and how much more energy the girl has on the right. One year is only the beginning can’t wait to see more changes down the road!

In January of this year I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis/IBD. The two years before being diagnosed I had struggled with major digestive issues, chronic fatigue, and was really emotionally drained but tried to play it off that it wasn’t a big deal. When diet wasn’t enough, my best friend got me connected to Brendan and the Metabolic Solutions team. I was overwhelmed at first but began to feel empowered and am seeing little signs of improvement such as more endurance, fewer flare ups, more strength, and better mood. Don’t get me wrong, I still have bad days and a lot of areas that can be improved but I hope this post gives others encouragement too. See me on the right after 7 months of a clean eating/paleo diet and a few months of starting supplements. Still more progress to go but excited about the progress that has been made!

These pictures are exactly one year apart. The one thing I notice is the decrease in inflammation (no change in scale weight). What you see represents unhappy hormones vs happier hormones, leaky gut vs healing gut, unhealthy relationships vs healthy relationships. It’s my journey that’s not over but I’m lucky I started it with Brendan Dean Vermeire and his team at Metabolic Solutions LLC. There is no fast fix or easy pill to take. It took nourishing my health and heart daily. Yes, I’m a health coach and trainer. I understand what it means to lead a healthy lifestyle but had no idea about gut health, hormone health and emotional health until this 2+ year journey. Looking forward to the journey ahead.

These two pictures are 7 years apart. My holistic journey started around 6 years ago. So many people want quick results. But the truth is, it takes a LOT of time, constant tweaking, a lot of emotional pain, and brave vulnerability to get to a better place. For the first 5 years it was tweaking how I worked out and my eating. This is only half the battle though and only got me so far...

Now for the emotional part...the hardest thing to face...

My brain is wired empathically. My ability to sense others emotion, relate, and feel what someone else feels is ridiculous and I’ve been like this since before teenage years. I felt inferior because as a boy, I didn’t fit anywhere in society because I was/am sensitive and didn’t have an issue showing it. Plus I was a late bloomer. I weighed 80 lbs in 8th grade and 125 lbs as a senior in high school. Being smaller and vulnerable, I was the source for a lot of fun for others especially since I had a stutter as well. I struggled but refused to give up.

Here is the bad side of that. Until you learn how to properly deflect emotion that is not yours, your mind and body cannot differentiate your own emotion from others and if you have people who project emotion on you for no reason, you absorb it. You can’t help it. This puts you in some nasty head spaces and as you get older, you run out of energy to fight it. Your body, organs, and mind all hold emotion. This is why emotional health is crucial. I finally have gotten to a point where I can separate others emotion from my own. The difference is substantial.

I then learned a ton more after consulting with Brendan and found out that I am just now really beginning to build momentum in my progress after gaining more knowledge. I still have so much to learn. So to those who are struggling, just know I see you. Also know that your progress will be constantly changing. You’re never done. Be patient and surround yourself with the right people. Those people hold the keys to the doors you need to open. You will rise up and be stronger than you could ever think. Be open but also be selective with who you let in as toxic people will stop at nothing to suck your energy dry.

Even at my age (senior citizen) there are so many ways to help me age gracefully! When I 1st met Brenden I was in a bad place mentally. Depression & anxiety are my biggest issues for now. In 6 months I have seen a huge turn around. Between the supplements for my gut health & brain health & working on being gluten free I am enjoying life again! I have had lots of support with eating ideas & recipes & learned so much about a much healthier lifestyle!

“Brendan and his team of Holistic Savages were integral to the positive changes in my life. At first I thought it a bit tedious to scroll down a long list of every possible health issue but now that I’ve gone through the program I’m so thankful I did. The process allowed me to make several huge changes that have greatly effected my overall health and wellbeing. Laying myself out there in such a detailed manner with values attributed to each of my strengths and weaknesses helped identify places to start and gave me a path to walk. The weekly focuses and guides let me take it slow, not burn out. When the program was all said and done I started an at-home workout routine that is easy to stick to. Even my three year old daughter mimics my exercises and stretches! We changed our diet to gluten-free and I’ve personally cut out most dairy. My average nightly sleep has increased by an hour. But most importantly, my family life has improved drastically. I started this program to improve my workouts but instead I became a better father, husband, and friend. Go be Savage!”
